Don't let vulgar toys erode innocence

A few days ago, there was a news story: it was accidentally discovered that a 10-year-old child was smoking. While doing homework, the child had a cigarette in his mouth, the tip flickering, and smoke coming out. The family was shocked and questioned him about why he would smoke at such a young age. But the child looked innocent and explained that it wasn’t a real cigarette, it was a fruit-flavored "toy cigarette" bought at a stationery store near the school. Many boys at school liked to buy these things and found it "cool."

It should be said that children living in today’s era, especially urban children, are mostly only children and the apple of their parents’ eyes, enjoying every possible comfort and convenience. This is largely due to the widespread indulgence and pampering from parents. Meanwhile, toy manufacturers and sellers, aiming to maximize profits, have been deeply exploring and expanding the children’s toy market, using all means and methods at their disposal. Some toys that target children’s pursuit of novelty and excitement—so-called "adult-like," "violent," or "vulgar" toys—have thus made their way openly into children’s lives, tempting children whose judgment and self-control are still weak.

Loving toys is natural for children. Good toys can develop their intelligence, cultivate their character, and encourage positive growth. However, it is important to be wary of those adult-like, violent, and vulgar toys, which often equate filth with progressiveness and vulgarity as innovation, easily affecting children’s physical and mental health. It is not hard to imagine that when children immerse themselves in these so-called "advanced and novel" toys, they may unknowingly be drawn into another "harmful environment." Subtly, their young minds can be eroded by the terrifying, bloody, vulgar, and ugly "toy culture," causing them to lose their precious innocence prematurely.

Keeping children away from vulgar toys requires the collective effort and cooperation of all sectors of society. Schools and families should strengthen education and awareness, enhancing children’s ability to recognize and discern, and consciously resist these vulgar toys. Regulatory departments like commerce and quality supervision must closely monitor stores around schools, increase inspections of "unlabeled" products, and take strong measures to stop the production of vulgar toys at the source. Cultural authorities should implement a rating system in the toy market, categorizing adult and children’s toys to prevent casual sales. Businesses selling toys with violent, pornographic, or superstitious elements to children must be strictly investigated and punished. Only through coordinated efforts, guiding and educating children to avoid vulgar toys and reject harmful information, can we purify the school environment and allow children to grow up healthy. We must not let adult-like, violent, and vulgar toys erode the pure and untainted hearts of children.
